A Mintlaw hotel has received a special commendation at the North East of Scotland Chef and Restaurant of the Year Awards.

Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges, which had been shortlisted in the North East of Scotland Hotel Restaurant of the Year category, was recognised for being the Best Newcomer within the competition by the organisers Hospitality Training (Aberdeen).

Commenting on the award, owners, Joanna and Noel Gall said: “We were completely taken aback when the judges announced our commendation.

“As Best Newcomer is not an official category within the competition it was very unexpected!

“The judges said they were very impressed when they visited us and thought we deserved some recognition for all the hard work we have put in since we opened the hotel in December 2015.”

Joanna added: “We are extremely proud of this achievement, and of all the members of our team who have worked so tirelessly over the past six months to make our restaurant a success.”

Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges, on the outskirts of Mintlaw, is open from 10am daily and serves morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
