A LOCAL group of runners are getting ready to run the London Marathon next month.

The team from Peterhead JogScotland are currently preparing for the event on April 21 and have already raised over £27,000 for eight different charities.

Husband and Wife, Cameron and Jennifer Robertson, are both jog leaders with the group and have so far raised an amazing total of over £11,000 alone for the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

The couple decided to support the charity after a close friend lost a baby to cot death.

The other charities set to benefit from the group are: The Bone Cancer Trust, Parkinsons UK, Asthma UK, Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, Epilepsy Society, Junior Diabetes Research and Diabetes UK.

Stephen Bruce, Peterhead JogScotland chairman, said: “Never in our wildest dreams did we ever expect when we started Peterhead JogScotland in 2007 that so many of our members would go on to do the London Marathon.

“We had eight members complete the London Marathon last year, and to have ten this year is just amazing, and to see all the hard work they are doing with their training and fundraising is real credit to them and club.

“To see so many charities benefit from all their efforts is just fantastic.

“We have a great community spirit in Peterhead and its fantastic how the population of Peterhead has got behind them all, as they have with Peterhead JogScotland ever since it started.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the Robertsons’ cause can do so at www.justgiving.com/jennifer-cammy.

As well as many members running for charity, Peterhead JogScotland organise Charity Fun Runs at the end each session.

The next 3, 6 or 10km Charity Fun Run in aid of Clan Cancer Support and Friends of Anchor takes place on Wednesday, April 3 at 6.30pm from Peterhead Football Club.

Entry on the night is by donation between 6.00pm and 6.25pm.

All those taking part will receive a medal with teas and coffees to be served afterwards.

There will also be some sales tables in aid of Friends of Anchor and Clan Cancer Support.

Meanwhile, the next Peterhead JogScotland session starts on Monday, April 15 at 6.30pm.

All levels of ability are welcome to join the Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced groups.

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Cost is only £1 per session and there is no joining fee.
