The application process for a national initiative that makes it easier for people with severe mobility problems to travel has been improved, allowing customers to apply online.
The Blue Badge scheme, overseen by Transport Scotland, is designed to help people with significant mobility problems to travel independently, as either a driver or a passenger, by letting them park close to their destination.
The system operates throughout the UK and, in Scotland, is managed by local authorities who deal with applications and issue badges.
As part of the project to simplify the applications process for Aberdeenshire residents, customers can now apply online or phone a dedicated number for support.
Under the new arrangements, the quickest and easiest way to apply is using the online facility by visiting the www.bluebadgescotland.org
Applications can also be made by phone by calling 08456 08 12 00 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with support also available by email email@example.com
The project has been developed as part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Improving the Customer Experience (iCE) project and is now being administered by the benefits team and supported by the authority’s contact centre team.
Commenting on the scheme, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s policy and resources committee Cllr Jim Gifford said: “This is one of a number of projects currently underway to make it easier for people to access services in a way that suits them and is a great example of cross-service working.”
