Professor Stephen Logan will take up the post of chair of NHS Grampian in January 2015 following his retirement from his current role as Senior Vice-Principal of the University of Aberdeen.
Professor Logan has previously been a board member of NHS Grampian and held the role of Chairman of Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust, between 1998 and 2004.
He has served on the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council and Scottish Funding Council and is currently a board member of Aberdeen Sports Village and Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Futures (ACSEF).
Professor Logan said: “I am delighted and honoured to be asked to bring my skills and experience to this critical and challenging role.
“I view this opportunity as a great privilege to serve the people of the north-east, and to work with our outstanding teams of healthcare professionals and management to ensure that services across our region are of the quality that our communities deserve.”
Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Shona Robison said: “With an extensive public sector background, as well as previous experience with NHS Grampian, I know he will be well placed to lead the board as they move forward.
“In addition he has a significant understanding of the unique challenges the city and its surrounding area face.”
