Entries to the Mintlaw Garden competition, organised by Mintlaw & District Community Council, were well down this year, but judges hope this was due to the inclement weather.

This year’s judge, Wilma Forsyth of Strichen, still had a hard task in selecting the winning gardens, and prizegiving will be held on Tuesday, August 18, at 7pm in Mintlaw Academy’s coffee lounge.

The owners of the winning gardens are invited along with their respective partners to pick up their prizes and enjoy a celebratory glass of wine/fruit juice.

Winning gardens were as follows:

Large gardens

1 (and overall winner) - Mr and Mrs G. Grant, 1 Station Way; 2 Mr and Mrs J. Noble, Emahroo, 15 Netheraden Road; 3 Mr E. Low, 2 Aden Gardens; 4 Mr and Mrs A. Leslie, 6 Bain Road.

Highly commended - Mr and Mrs J. Lawrence, 7 Pitfour Place.

Commended - Mr G. Taylor, 3 Bain Road.

Recognition - Mr J. Ritchie, 19 Quarry Road, Mr and Mrs M. Wood, 50 James Mitchell Place.

Smaller gardens

1 Mr and Mrs Muller, 21 Netheraden Road; 2 Mrs E. Ritchie, 51 James Mitchell Place; 3 Mrs S. Grant, 8 Pine View; 5 Mrs P. Cordiner, 22 Brae Crescent.

Community council secretary, Joan Whyte, said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in this year’s competition and we look forward to seeing everyone next week.”
