A POPULAR Buchan cafe looks set to expand with the creation of a function room.

Members of the Buchan area committee will consider an application seeking full planning permission for the extension to Roads Community Cafe on High Street, St. Combs, when they meet in Peterhead later today (Tuesday).

The proposed extension is similar in design and materials, but would represent an almost doubling in the floor area of the existing building. It will be used primarily as a function room, with the agent specifying various community uses such as the local Boys Brigade, kids club, keep fit club, funeral teas and Sunday worship services for St. Combs Community Church.

The applicant originally proposed the hours of operation to be 9am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday only, but this was later changed to 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday.

A total of 11 representations have been received raising a number of concerns including the need for such an extension, opening hours, increased level of traffic and drainage and flooding issues.

In a report to today’s meeting, planners say the extension will require the area around the existing building to be redesigned, with new car parking provided and retaining walls demolished and reinstated elsewhere.

“In conclusion, no points raised in the representations suggest that planning permission should not be granted,” they state.
