Residents reminded to take part in vote

With the Scottish independence referendum just ten months away and with only six months until the European Parliamentary election, residents in the north east are being reminded to make sure they can take part.

Grampian Electoral Registration Officer, Ian Milton, is concerned some may lose their right to a say in these key ballots. Electoral canvass forms were delivered to around 270,000 households in Grampian in October, but so far more than 93,000 households have failed to respond.

Those failing to make a return could find that they will be unable to cast their votes in 2014. By law, failure to return a form for two consecutive years results in names being removed from the Electoral Register.

If you have any questions or need help in responding to the canvass form please telephone 01261 815516, emailbanff@grampian-ero.gov.uk, web www.voteaberdeenshire.org, or write or visit the Electoral Registration Office at Mitchell Burnett House, Colleonard Road, Banff AB451DZ.
