Norman Smith to stand for re-election

Independent Councillor Norman Smith is hoping to earn your vote on May 3.

The Central Buchan councillor is hoping to be returned to the seat he has held for nearly a decade.

He told the Buchanie: “Over the past nine years it has been my privilege to serve as a councillor for the Central Buchan Ward in the Aberdeenshire Council. I always make myself available to the constituents in my ward and I am only a phonecall away.”

“As a councillor I have been assiduous in looking after the best interests of the electors not only in Central Buchan but for the whole of the Buchan area when matters were being discussed. With the experience I have gained at council level I am able to give the electors of Central Buchan an assurance that I will at all times endeavour to ensure satisfaction on any matter raised with me. I was in business locally for 31 years although now retired. I am able to devote all my time to council business as I feel being a councillor is no longer a part time job. I have for the past 5 years been vice chair of the Buchan Area Committee and also have served as a councillor on many local and central committees.”

He added that party politics should have no place in local government and that only an independent councillor with no party whip can use his vote for the best interests of the electors and the Buchan Area as a whole.”
