‘NHS Grampian underfunding not sustainable’: MSP

Alison McInnes, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for North East Scotland, has warned the SNP government is chronically underfunding NHS Grampian after an Audit Scotland report, published recently, shows the health board was short-changed by £39.9 million in 2013/14.

The report revealed the extent of financial and demographic pressures facing struggling health boards.

It also urged the Scottish Government to review current financial and performance targets for the NHS in order to ensure its own flagship 2020 Vision policy can be met.

Commenting on the report, Ms McInnes said: “This impartial, independent report tells it straight and shows the historically underfunded NHS Grampian was starved of a further £39.9 million in 2013/14 alone.

“This is not sustainable or fair on patients in the North East and only results in worsening performance against crucial waiting times.

“This report makes clear that the Scottish Government’s incoherent approach means it is jeopardising its own flagship health policies. Scottish Liberal Democrats have gladly supported Vision 2020 but it seems the only blockade to its success is the SNP government.”
