Banff and Buchan MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford visited New Deer recently to show her support for the All Weather Facility being built in the village.

During the visit, Eilidh White-ford bought a brick as part of ongoing fund-raising efforts for the community facility.

‘Buy A Brick’ was launched earlier this summer and is the latest initiative to raise funds for the facility.

Dr Whiteford met with Project Co-ordinator Helen Young, Iain MacAuslan, who is chairperson of the Community Association, and Jim Conn, treasurer of the Sports Council.

Commenting, Dr Eilidh Whiteford said: “This is a project which has been on the go for a while now. It’s been community-led from the start.

“I wish the project management team and community association all the very best in bringing this project to completion.

“It’s great to see support from right across the community.”

Project co-ordinator and community councillor Helen Young said: “‘Buy A Brick’ is our latest fund-raiser and we’ve sold 52 bricks so far.

“Bricks have been sold from as far afield as Ken and Surrey, which we’re delighted with.”

The roof of the changing rooms is now complete. The internal walls were due to be finished last week, and the changing rooms should be complete by Christmas.
