FORMER Peterhead Academy teacher Michael Doig has been selected by SNP members in the Peterhead North & Rattray ward to join councillors Anne Allan and Fiona McRae in seeking election to Aberdeenshire Council.

Michael Doig spent 34 years teaching business studies and economics at Peterhead Academy, latterly as Depute Head Teacher, where he recently took early retirement.

Michael was coach of the Academy under-18s hockey team which won honours at national level, with Michael being elected Chairman of Scottish Youth Hockey in 1994.

He was instrumental in forging Peterhead Academy’s links with schools overseas which has led to over 650 Peterhead pupils benefitting from exchange visits, with the programme of visits being recognised in both the Scottish and Irish Parliaments.

Michael regularly attends Peterhead FC’s home games and is a sponsor for one of the team’s first XI players.

Commenting on his selection, Michael Doig said: “I am delighted to have been selected by the local SNP members to contest the council election in Peterhead North & Rattray ward.

“Having served Peterhead Academy and those who have passed through it for 34 years, I am offering myself for election to serve the wider community and work as part of a strong SNP team for Peterhead, St Fergus, Crimond, Lonmay, St Combs and district.”
