Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has welcomed an award of £20,000 to the Scottish Association of Young Farmers to create a support network for young farmers in rural communities.

The new money comes on the back of a £30,000 grant earlier in the year by the Scottish Government’s agriculture and rural affairs department. A portion of the cash will be used to complement existing careers advice for young people so that more choose subjects and courses at school and beyond that lead to careers in farming and food production.

Ms Martin said: “The rural economy is vital to the north-east and it is pleasing to see the Scottish Government back the work of SAYFC to encourage and support young people.”
