Instead of waiting until New Year and making a resolution to get fit in 2015, why not give the gift of fitness this year with an Active Aberdeenshire gift voucher?

As Christmas draws near, visitors and residents in Aberdeenshire are being encouraged to get fit and healthy with new ways to be part of the Active Aberdeenshire scheme.

Gift vouchers for one month’s membership are now available to buy from all swimming pools and sports centres in Aberdeenshire for friends or family members who want to exercise more.

Included with every voucher is a free swim or gym session and induction for a friend of their choice.

A number of other new membership initiatives have made it easier and cheaper to use Aberdeenshire Council-run sports and leisure facilities.

A new Pay As You Go membership means people can pay for a month of membership up front, as and when they like it rather than signing up for regular payments.

A new day membership has also been introduced so visitors to Aberdeenshire can access facilities, even if they are only in the area for a short time.

Also available is the Single Adult Family membership which can be used by one adult and all children at one address.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, Cllr Isobel Davidson, said: “Active Aberdeenshire is a fantastic way for people to take advantage of Aberdeenshire Council’s many and varied facilities to find the type of activity that suits them.”

Committee vice-chair, Cllr Ron McKail, said: “Keeping fit is a good way to prepare for the festive season and if you want to lose a few pounds in the run-up to Christmas, I can’t think of a better way to do it than getting involved with Active Aberdeenshire.
