ABERDEENSHIRE Council says it will be towards the end of January before the B9030 Old Deer to Auchnagatt Road is reopened, causing travel misery for Buchan commuters.
Bridge re-decking work began at the beginning of October, meaning those wishing to go to Old Deer from Mintlaw had to travel via Maud - adding several miles to their journey.
One unhappy driver contacted the Buchanie this week asking when the work would be complete as the extra mileage had become increasingly difficult in the current severe weather conditions.
He said: “The bridge has been closed since October and you can’t get from Mintlaw to Old Deer easily now because Bridge End is closed as well.
“Drivers wishing to go to Stuartfield are having to go up past West Knock to get back into the village or alternatively go to Maud first and head back.
“If the weather closes the road to West Knock then drivers would have to go to Ellon. It’s just ridiculous.”
The driver said that there had been no workmen at either bridge for at least a month and folk were now saying that it would be into February before it was re-opened.
However, a council spokesman confirmed last week that the essential work was due to be completed on January 24 and apologised to drivers for the problems caused by the bridge closures.
