On Tuesday the Buchan Area Committee will be asked to authorise nearly £70,000 of upgrades for Peterhead Academy.
A report from planning chief Stephen Archer recommends that councillors approve the cost estimate for heating upgrades at the school so the local authority can put the project out to tender.
The need for upgrading the insulation was identified as part of the Education Learning and Leisure Asset Management Programme.
The works will be funded through the Central Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF) and have been benchmarked against similar projects.
Work is estimated to cost £65,000 with a further £4,550 expected in property fees.
The project will see the existing pipe work insulation in the school replaced with higher quality material which meets the current standard.
The insulation will be put around pipes in the underground ducts and on distribution pipes.
Mr Archer notes: “These works will improve the operational efficiency of the existing heating system.”
“ The energy savings from thse works are expected to meet the CEEF criteria of a 7-year pay-back period.”
Should the tender sum come back in excess of the estimate - and exceed an additional contingency - the committee would be presented with another report for approval.
Mr Archer states local councillors were consulted and cllrs Anne Allan and Alan Gardiner have supported the recommendations.
