Platinum day for Buchan couple

A BUCHAN couple have recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Bill and Phyllis Rollo marked their Platinum wedding anniversary with a family lunch at the BanCar Hotel in Lonmay.

Bill worked at Tyrie Mains farm for 45 years serving under three generations of the Bell family before retiring to Strichen - within walking distance of the bowling green which was ideal for their hobby of bowling.

The couple have a son Bill and daughter Alison.Bill farms at Thistleyhillock where his grandfather used to farm and Alison is the learning resources manager at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education in Kent.

They also have five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister and resident of Strichen, visited the couple twice to present them with a variety of gifts and to have a memorable photo taken with them.

Bill and Phyllis have now received three congratulatory cards from the Queen to celebrate their 60th, 65th and 70th anniversaries.
