A petition to dual the A90 road north of Ellon to Fraserburgh via Peterhead has been signed by over 300 people since it began this morning.
Helen Graham, who started the petition, done so to “save lives” on a road “not fit for purpose in 2015.”
Ms Graham said: “The road sees a huge amount of traffic of all shapes and sizes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“It is seriously overcrowded, some of the vehicles speeds are too low and this results in accidents being caused by overtaking and bad driving.”
She added: “The petition has been started purely to save lives on a section of road which is not fit for purpose in 2015.”
Dualling the A90 north of Ellon is one of the possibilities currently being looked at by Nestrans in their ongoing Fraserburgh and Peterhead to Aberdeen Strategic Transport Study.
The A90 north of Ellon continues to be an extremely busy stretch of road as HGV’s continue on to the fishing ports of Fraserburgh and Peterhead.
The road has also been the scene of fatal collisions in the last few months, including the deaths of two lorry drivers.
Ms Graham said: “It is lives I want to save.
“The lives of everyone, many who are in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Nestrans have been contacted for comment.
