Relay For Life Peterhead 2014 smashed the UK total for relays hosted annually by raising £206,390 this year.

The team had held the record for 2013 with a staggering £183,179, but managed to excel themselves this year adding a further £23,000 to the total.

Cancer Research UK had three representatives at the Relay final total revealing evening at the Buchanhaven Hearts last month.

The Relay teams and the committee were highly praised by all three - Fiona, Nicola and Richard.

They also passed on sincere appreciation from the chief executive of Cancer Research who sent a lovely letter and a framed certificate for all their efforts.

The certificate was for the first Relay in the UK to raise over £1 million pounds, with the Blue Toon team having raised £1,048,779 since the town Relay began.

Event chair, Lorraine Coleman sincerely thanked everyone for all the efforts they put in to fundraising.

“This will help others have a better chance of beating cancer,” she said.

Organisation of next year’s Relay for Life Peterhead, has already got underway, with many teams having started their fundraising effort.

The official launch will be held at Buchanhaven Hearts on Thursday, November 20.

“We look forward to old teams returningand new teams joining us,” said Lorraine.
