Peterhead and District Pipe Band ran a crest competition for local school children to design a crest for the band.

Band secretary Carol- Anne Murphy said: “We had a really good response and many children took part. It was a hard decision as there were many good entries but in the end a young girl from Central School took first prize. And with the help of Jason Nelson who is the artist involved with the Roanheads Community Art Project, who helped perfect the original design.”

“The winners were 1st prize winner Megija Kuke, 2nd joint prize winner Darcy Burrell and 3rd prize joint winner is Valerijs Amenovs from Peterhead Central School and from Buchanhaven Primary School the winners were joint 2nd and 3rd place winners are Daniel Stephen, Carly O’Brien and Rebecca Meijerewith.”

“The Peterhead and District Pipe Band would like to sincerely thank Donalds of Peterhead, Cromwell Tools of Peterhead, Macrae Seafoods Fraserburgh and W & R Stephen Engineering Services in Fraserburgh for donating money and vouchers to the band for the winners.”

Carol- Anne added: “Well done to all the schools who took part and thank you.”

Lisa Long and Carol- Anne Murphy are founding members of the band and came to the schools involoved to tell them who had won.

The band started of small but has now grown to more than 50 members.
