Councillors have granted planning permission in principle for the erection of a house at East Toux near Mintlaw.
The decision to grant approval was made at a recent meeting of Buchan Area Committee, despite Council planning officers recommending that permission be refused.
Speaking at the meeting, Central Buchan councillor Norman Smith signalled his support to grant planning permission and moved a motion in favour of the development.
Commenting, Councillor Norman Smith said: “I think this would contribute to the organic growth of the settlement.”
Councillor Jim Ingram also spoke in support of the development and seconded Cllr Smith’s motion, saying the land “would become agriculturally redundant” without the development.
Committee chairman Councillor Pratt moved an amendment against the proposal.
In the final vote on the development, the motion was carried by seven votes to three.
