Aberdeenshire East MSP Alex Salmond and North East MSP Christian Allard have congratulated two local groups on their successful funding awards.

Almost £15,000 will be shared between Slains and Collieston Community Council and Longhaven School Parent Teacher Association.

The Awards For All grants from the Big Lottery Fund are awarded to projects that aim to help improve local communities.

Slains and Collieston Community Council has been granted £4,916 towards the refurbishment of the former schoolhouse and village hall.

Longhaven School Parent Teacher Association has received £9,876 to upgrade the playground equipment by installing an adventure trail.

Commenting on the Longhaven PTA award Mr Salmond said: “The adventure trail will no doubt be a very exciting new place for the children at Longhaven School to play and exercise.”

Mr Allard said: “This funding will help to create better facilities for the communities of Slains, Collieston and Longhaven.

“The projects will benefit people of all ages and it is great to see the people in the north-east of Scotland benefitting from the Awards For All scheme.”

An Awards for All spokesperson said: “Today’s awards will make a big difference to communities the length and breadth of Scotland.

“Awards for All helps groups do things they would otherwise be unable to do, and for relatively small amounts of money.”
