A new funding scheme has been launched to help Aberdeenshire’s communities celebrate the best of their local area.

The Our Place fund is part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Be Part of the Picture creative placemaking project which is working with local businesses and communities to promote the best of Aberdeenshire.

Community groups and organisations across Aberdeenshire can apply for up to £5,000 towards projects aimed at celebrating the best of their local area, which could include key local figures, an iconic landmark, the natural environment, local produce, heritage or language.

The money is available for:

• Projects which celebrate a key aspect of a community’s history or heritage

• Creation of an artwork or creative product inspired by local surroundings

• Development of a community brand to be used in local projects or products

• Extending an existing community event – e.g. a local festival, gala or highlight games – to showcase local creative talent

The Our Place fund offers direct support to local residents and organisations who want to celebrate the best of local culture and creativity and build a feeling of community pride.

The programme will use cultural and economic development projects to engage with local people and boost the sense of pride in Aberdeenshire’s communities.

Director of Education, Learning & Leisure, Maria Walker, said: “We want to support our communities to show their pride in Aberdeenshire and make the most of the local assets which make them unique.”
