New Arc talk for Auchnagatt WRI members

Caroline Harlow, having conducted the business of Auchnagatt WRI, welcomed Keith Marley from New Arc (North East Wildlife animal rescue centre), who gave a very interesting talk to the ladies about the life and work of the centre.

Keith explained how he and his partner, through her love of animals, decided to set up their land for the rehabilitation of animals and wildlife.

They built three large field shelters which have been filled to capacity as more and more animals arrive.

More enclosures and aviaries have also been added.

Over the years some 6,500 animals have been rescued.

These include all domestic animals, rabbits, guinea pigs, parrots, snakes, lizards, meerkats, marmosets and even a skunk!

Wildlife such as deer, badgers and foxes are brought to the centre by vets and members of the public, often after an accident, hopefully to make a recovery.

The New Arc charity shop in Ellon is going from strength to strength in raising much-needed funds to support the invaluable work of this indespensible animal sanctuary.

The ladies all enjoyed a welcome cup of tea, after which the competitions were judged by Keith, with the prizes as follows:

Photograph of a bird - 1 Barbara Rogers, 2 Pat Anderson, 3 Caroline Harlow.

Fridge magnet - 1 Pat Anderson, 2 Isobel Dickie, 3 Caroline Harlow.

Flower of the month - 1 Pat Anderson, 2 Caroline Harlow, 3 Isobel Dickie.

Sally Cole gave the vote of thanks and Caroline Harlow thanked everyone for a most enjoyable evening.

The next meeting of the group will be held in Auchnagatt village hall on Thursday, November 13, at 7.30pm.

All members and visitors are welcome.
