A very moving memorial service was conducted by former Peterhead primary school head teacher Dorothy Mair at Fraserburgh Old Parish Church recently.

The service was held to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.

Guest of honour for the special occasion was the Honourable Kate Nicolson, mistress of Saltoun from Cairnbulg Castle.

Her great grandfather had gifted the memorial pulpit to the church. On it are inscribed the names of the 370 men from Fraserburgh who died during the great war.

This included the Honourable Simon Fraser, the son of Lord Saltoun.

A colour party marched in the colours and this was followed by the laying of a wreath by the Fraserburgh branch of the Royal British Legion at the foot of the pulpit in memory of the men who fell.
