A TALENTED young Gardenstown lad will be heading to the Blue Toon next month to entertain at a soup and sweet.

Matthew-James McKay, impressed a captive audience at the town’s Fishermen’s Mission on Saturday night when he sang a selection of songs from his own CD of hymns which he has just produced.

The ten-year-old, who says he owes much of his success to Moray Male Voice Choir leader John Buchanan who realised his potential at an early age, launched his new CD ‘The Lovely Face of Jesus’ just over a week ago to a packed audience at his local village hall.

The £10 CD was recorded after the family got in touch with Peterhead man Paul Gardiner who agreed to produce the disc after hearing Matthew-James sing.

Matthew-James has now found himself in demand and will appear at Peterhead Baptist Church’s soup and sweet on Saturday, March 5, and has also been asked to perform at the Harvest Community Church Centre later in the year.

Mr Buchanan said that his protege’s approach to learning and the discipline of singing ‘went beyond his years’ adding: “I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more about this young man.”

Matthew-James’ parents, Hamish and Roseanne, have been inundated with requests for the youngster’s CD and those wishing to purchase it can do so by calling (01261) 851346 or (01261) 851583.
