LODGE St. James 256 members handed over cheques for £100 each to three charities recently.

Rosie Reid and Joan Davidson from the League of Friends; June and Jim Weir, parents of SMA Syndrome sufferer Lilyanne, and Jackie and Brian Watt, fundraisers for Spinal Research, accepted the cheques for their charities.

The League of Friends supports Peterhead’s two hospitals on various levels, while Brian Watt, a C4 Complete Quadriplegic, recently organised a Texas Scramble at Peterhead Golf Club for Spinal Research which raised £1,710.

June and Brian Weir’s daughter Lilyanne has Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMA), one of the rarest life-threatening gastrointestinal disorders known to medical science.

After being unwell for 18 months, Lilyanne was diagnosed with the condition in December 2011. She cannot eat due to the pain it causes and for the past six months has been feeding through a tube. The only treatment for her is based in Germany for a one-off operation.

Her parents are now fundraising towards the life-saving trip and anyone who can help should contact them on 07539984919.
