PETERHEAD pharmacist Steven Webster is in training to run this year’s London Marathon.

Steven of Websters Pharmacy is running in aid of Diabetes UK as he has lived with diabetes for almost 20 years.

There are 2.5 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and there are an estimated 850,000 people with the condition but are as yet undiagnosed.

The London Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 21.

Steven said: “I had been saying for years, ‘I’m going to do that one year’.”

This year, he finally applied and was amazed to be accepted first time round as he had never run - other than for the bus!

After six weeks of training Steven decided to run the Peterhead 10k race which he said was okay, and then the Fraserburgh half marathon which proved to be tougher than he had anticipated as he said: “I didn’t do enough training as I haven’t been able to run since”

Steven has just begun training again and says his goal is simply to finish the course.

To support Diabetes UK, Websters Pharmacies in Peterhead, Strichen, New Pitsligo and Aberdeen will be offering free diabetes tests from Monday, January 28 up until the day of the Marathon.

Steven’s friends and family will be cheering him on round the course and he would appreciate your support either in store at Webster’s Pharmacy by filling in a sponsor form or online at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StevenWebster.

Every donor will be entered into a raffle to guess the time it will take Steven to reach the finish line.

The winner will receive a luxurious dinner, bed and breakfast voucher for the Buchan Braes Hotel which generously donated the prize in support of Steven.
