Peterhead welcomed supporters from the south on Sunday for the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup, which saw the Blue Toon battle it out against Celtic FC.

Streets were lined with fans wearing either blue or green as they entered the Balmoor Stadium.

Busloads were dropped off at Balmoor which had an attendance of 4,505, far more than the average 500, to witness a spirited Peterhead side succumb 3-0 to the SPL giants.

Chairman Rodger Morrison was happy with Sunday’s success and was proud of the efforts made by everyone.

“Sunday was an extremely successful day for Peterhead FC,” he told the Buchanie.

“We’ve had really positive feedback, particularly on our hospitality, which was second to none. Safety Officer Gavin Mundie did a really good job, there were very few incidents on the day and so far we haven’t had any complaints.

“Celtic were impressed with the playing surface at Balmoor and the facilities.”

Rumours were rife that the Blue Toon had some celebrities present for the match, including Hollywood actor and Paisley-born Celtic supporter Gerard Butler, comedian and actor Billy Connolly and singer Rod Stewart, though they were all a no-show.

Among the crowd, was local MP Eilidh Whiteford, who told the Buchanie: “Sunday was a great day for Peterhead FC and I think the whole town should be proud of the players, who put up a great fight against probably one of the best football teams in Scotland at the moment.

“Hopefully there will be a spin-off for the club from this in terms of the great show of support from the town, and will help the club to invest in their future.”
