William IV discovery at antiques roadshow

Buchan folk flocked to the Palace Hotel last week for Peterhead's answer to the Antiques Roadshow.

Three antiques experts were on hand to examine the valuables of visitors and give their professional opinion.

This year Scottish Week welcomed a special guest antiques specialist from the largest auction rooms in the North-east.

Jonathan Taylor, of Taylor's Auction Rooms in Montrose, was in town last Tuesday to help locals discover some hidden gems. Also on hand to give their expert opinion were Jacqui Harvey of Longhaven antique business Granny Used to Have One, and Alan Cowie, a well known local antiques authority and Scottish Week regular.

And some visitors were certainly not disappointed with their trip. Among the gems discovered on the day was a William IV solid silver gavel, which is so rare the three experts could not put a value on it.

Also catching the eye of experts on the day were a Victorian-era wedding dress, a bronze tripod pot, a German teddy bear and an unusual stone monkey figure.
