Aberdeenshire Council held an open day at Forbes Court Sheltered Housing in New Pitsligo this month and invited local residents to tour the facilities.
Residents were invited to join housing officers, current residents and local councillors Lenny Pirie, Edie Chapman, Jim Ingram, Norman Smith, Anne Allan, Stuart Pratt and Alisan Norrie and were given tours of show flats and the chance to ask any questions regarding the sheltered flats.
Approximately 12 separate parties attended the open day with five expressing extensive interest in the housing.
The visitors were shown around two show flats and had the opportunity to talk with housing officers about their specific circumstances.
They expressed positive comments regarding the location and private aspects of the scheme as well as the well maintained housing and gardenareas.
Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Housing and Social Work Committee Councillor Karen Clark said: “Sheltered housing offers a safe and supported living environment for older people whilst enabling them to retain as much independence as possible.
“Aberdeenshire Council was delighted to offer a chance for local residents to tour the facility and answer any queries regarding living within a sheltered housing complex.”
Vice-chair Councillor Alisan Norrie added: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the open day and would like to encourage anyone who has an interest in sheltered housing in Aberdeenshire to get in touch with the social care service.”
Sheltered Housing offers people who have low level housing support needs a flat or house within a safe environment. The flats often have one bedroom and are within a complex which offers optional social facilities. Tenants have use of a communal lounge, laundry facilities and guest accommodation.
