Stand up and be counted!

If you are over 16 and a UK, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen resident in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire or Moray – you should be registered!

The Grampian Electoral Registration Office recently issued a canvass form to every household. Householders will be requested to make sure that the name of anybody who is entitled to be registered and resident at that address is included on the canvass form.

The names of existing electors already registered at the address will be pre-printed on the form.

Householders will be asked to score out the names of anybody who is no longer resident and add any names of new residents who would qualify as voters.

Citizens can also use the canvass form to request an application to vote by post in future elections and can also make sure that their name is excluded from any registers purchased by direct marketing organisations that might issue ‘junk’ mail by ticking the box to indicate that they wish to be excluded from the Edited Register that is used by such organisations.

If there are no changes to the names on the form, the householder can respond using a convenient freephone, text or internet response service that is available at all hours.

A freepost return envelope is also provided for use where changes are made to the names on the form.

Regardless of whether you are interested in voting or not, all households must respond to the canvass or face the possibility of a £1,000 fine.

If you have any questions regarding Electoral Registration or need help in responding to the canvass form please telephone 01224 664848, email ero@grampian-ero.gov.uk, web www.voteaberdeen.org, or write or visit the Electoral Registration Office at Woodhill House, Westburn Road, Aberdeen AB16 5GE.
