Sight of Peterhead in bloom ‘spectacular’

Community leaders from Peterhead have praised Aberdeenshire Council for their efforts to brighten up the town centre with flowerbeds.

The display’s in the North East town’s Drummer’s Corner have bloomed just in time for Scottish Week and are an example of the work being done to attract residents back to the area.

Aberdeenshire councillor Tom Malone (Independent) told the Buchanie: “We’ve seen a significant improvement being made and now we will look at other areas in Peterhead we would like to develop in a similar fashion.

“We’ve got to give credit to Aberdeenshire Council’s Landscape Services who put in the flowers.

“A lot of the perception issues surroundingPeterhead town centre are about aesthetics which can be easily improved.”

Community councillor John Brownlee joined cllr Malone in his praise for the local authority and said: “A lot of the benches here in Drummer’s corner have also been fixed.”

Over the past eight years Aberdeenshire Counci has worked with community councils and other groups across the region to supply more than 240,000 summer bedding plants, all grown at the nursery at Aden Country Park.

The local authority’s Landscape Services boss Graham Wall said: “This has proved an excellent example of a Local Authority - Local Community partnership where we supply the bedding plants and the community plant, water and maintain them, this is a real joint effort.

“This provides a fantastic splash of colour to our towns and villages across Aberdeenshire, contributing toward our ongoing achievement of having an award for the Best Quality of life in Scotland .

“As part of the drive to improve Peterhead town centre, an upgrade and increase of summer bedding containers was agreed, the result has been spectacular.”
