A leading member of Peterhead’s Community Safety Group has warned of the dangers of a toppled crane in the town becoming a novelty attraction.

The £3million Liebherr crane collapsed at Dales Industrial Estate earlier this month.

No one was hurt in the accident.

Anne Allan, who is also an Aberdeenshire councillor, is concerned about the number of people visiting the estate to take photographs.

Cllr Allan said: “People need to stay well clear of industrial areas unless they really need to be there.

“Slow moving and heavy goods vehicles are reversing and unloading and it would be easy for someone taking a picture to be caught unawares.”

Whyte Crane Hire told the Buchanie they had ‘no comment’ about when the vehicle would be moved.

The Health and Safety Executive is conducting an investigation into what went wrong.
