RGU graduate has the X Factor

PETERHEAD student Christopher Cameron (21), has graduated with a First Class (BA) Hons in Management with Marketing from Robert Gordon University.

Christopher has always had a passion for the creative arts, yet also knew he wanted to go to university to achieve a degree. RGU’s Management with Marketing undergraduate degree course provided the business content Christopher was looking for as well as a year-long placement which he completed at Walt Disney in Florida, holding various supervisor and managerial responsibilities.

He embraced the opportunity and fulfilled one of his performing dreams when he was a character performer, being one of the first International students to ever be in a Walt Disney World parade.

Christopher said: “I faced my biggest challenge in my final year of the degree, as settling back into course work was hard after being on placement and working for a year. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into my dissertation but it was worth it as I achieved an A.”

Prior to his placement Christopher also auditioned for X-Factor in 2009 and reached the Bootcamp stage. The singer was told by Simon Cowell that his voice sounded “too musical theatre”, which has led to his next career move; in September he will move to London to attend Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts to undertake a one year intensive Masters in Musical Theatre.

Christopher continued: “I will always have my degree and may end up pursuing a career in management or marketing in the future, but I must follow my heart and chase a career in musical theatre while I can.”
