Peterhead receive the League Two trophy

Peterhead FC are to be presented with the Pride of Buchan Award by Buchan Area Committee on Tuesday.

Committee councillors unanimously agreed that the Blue Toon should receive the award in recognition of them winning the Scottish Professional Football League Two Championship.

To mark the achievement, a small reception will be held at Arbuthnot House later today when the Peterhead FC players and management team will be presented with the award.

Aberdeenshire Provost, Jill Webster, has also sent a letter congratulating the Blue Toon on their achievements this season.

Commenting on the award, chair of Buchan area committee, Councillor Stuart Pratt said: “This award is in recognition of the fantastic achievement in winning the League Two title.

“It was their first trophy since gaining entry to what is now the SPFL and they were by far the best team in the league.

“We wanted to recognise this achievement and the committee agreed it would be fitting to present them with the Pride of Buchan Award.”

Committee vice-chair, Cllr Anne Allan added: “The award is in recognition of the hard work of everyone at the club and its importance to the local area and the people of Peterhead.

“I hope they enjoy the reception and would like to wish them well in League One.”

Peterhead won the SPFL League Two Championship by 13 points from Annan Athletic, losing just six games in the league season.

It was the club’s first senior title in its 123-year history and a momentous occasion for both players and fans.

Commenting at the time, Peterhead FC chairman, Rodger Morrison said: “It’s got to be the biggest moment in Peterhead’s history”, while Blue Toon boss Jim McInally added: “When I came to Peterhead in 2011 I set out to take the club back to where it had been.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement.”

Striker Rory McAllister scored 33 goals in all competitions which led to him being named PFA Scotland’s League Two Player of the year.

He also scored the most league goals of any player in Scotland.
