Police issue warning after spate of car thefts
Grampian Police have issued a reminder to car owners in Aberdeenshire to ensure they take proper precautions to secure their vehicles.
The appeal comes after several thefts from vehicles in the Kinmundy area of Peterhead where property was stolen from cars that were either left unlocked or the property was left clearly visible within the vehicle.
Crime Reduction Officer, Constable Andy Rankin, told the Buchanie: “Please don’t make it easy for opportunist thieves by leaving your vehicle insecure or by leaving your property within the car.
“That’s an open invitation to criminals. Laptops, clothing, even sweets have been stolen! Your car has door locks for a reason – use them! Just think – one press of a button, or taking a second to turn the key in the lock, could save you hours of frustration and upset!
“I am disappointed to have to have to repeat this message over again.
“The Police cannot do this themselves and need the public to help by helping themselves in the first instance.”
PC Rankin said simple steps taken, even if you are just leaving your vehicle for a few minutes, will go a long way to deterring the opportunist thief.”
