Aberdeenshire parents, carers and tots got on board the PlayTalkRead bus last week as it visited the area as part of a national roadshow.

The bus was open for all and inside fun games and activities were available with the help of Kathy Dunn and Fiona Gardiner.

First stop was at Hatton Primary on and the rain did not keep the visitors away.

The Roadshow is a key part of the Scottish Government’s PlayTalkRead campaign which focuses on development during the early years of children’s lives and it is travelling across the country.

The Roadshow scheme will continue to be funded by the Scottish Government for the next three years.

The fun bus offers mums, dads and tiny tots in the area free activities such as Bookbug, song, rhyme and story sessions.

Speaking to the Buchanie, Katy said: “Our target audience is the parents of kids aged 0-3, to encourage interaction with their kids and that will maximise their children’s brain development.

“The more you play, talk and read with children before they are three years old, the more you help them to build their co-ordination.”

The bus is full of interaction based activities that sees parents getting involved with their children and by doing so it also helps to improve their relationships.

The activities available are cheap to buy and make, and there is not a television in sight.

One activity available was ‘30 Things to do Before You Are Three’ which is full of ideas for parents and their children to do.

Kathy added: “We sometimes go to schools but we encourage families to come along and jump in.”

The bus also stopped at Drummers Corner, Mintlaw Library and New Pitsligo School.
