PETERHEAD Academy has been awarded a grant to fund the provision of opportunities for youngsters to take part in sport.

The grant - also made to Banff’s Brighter Horizons group - totals £3,107 and was made by the Big Lottery Funding through the 2014 Communities programme. It wants to encourage participation in sport as part of a healthy and active lifestyle in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.

Stewart Stevenson, SNP MSP for Banffshire & Buchan Coast, welcomed the news, saying: “I am delighted to see these local groups, who are centres of activity in our community receiving these funds, which will serve to support them now and provide for their development in the future. I would encourage any and all eligible groups in the area to apply to the Big Lottery Fund 2014 Communities programme for a grant to support their activities, whatever they may be.”
