Mintlaw Academy to receive new windows

PROPOSALS for replacement windows at Mintlaw Academy were given the go-ahead at the latest Buchan Area Committee meeting.

Members of the committee were asked to approve the works when they met in Peterhead on Tuesday.

Aberdeenshire Council wanted permission to replace windows on all elevations of the academy.

Councillors were told that not all, but the majority of the windows, were to be replaced with white metal framed double-glazed units of varying styles, but none exceeding the existing window aperture.

Images of the current building and sketch drawings of the proposed windows were shown at the meeting.

In a report to the meeting, infrastructure services director, Stephen Archer, said the application did not seek any extension to the existing building or encroachment onto the associated playing fields, simply external changes to the appearance of the building.

“Consequently, the main issue surrounding the application is its visual impact upon the existing school building and the surrounding area,” he said.

“The school building is a fairly standard, functional design and this proposal will allow for the upgrade of the existing windows on the building. Although not all window units are to be replaced, the use of materials to match the existing limits any adverse visual impacts to arise from this.”

Recommending approval, he added: “It is therefore considered that this development would lead to an improvement the look of the school and surrounding area.”

Councillors unanimously backed the proposals and agreed the work could take place.
