A MAN appeared in court today (Monday) charged with the murder of a man at his New Pitsligo home.

Mark John Joseph Foster (36) appeared in private charged with murder and several assaults. He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody - no date has yet been given for his re-appearance.

Emergency services were called out to the village property late on Thursday afternoon with resident Glen Miller rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with “serious injuries”.

Grampian Police later confirmed that Mr Miller had died in hospital and said they were now treating the incident as murder.

Emergency services were called out to Mr Miller’s semi-detached property on Clinton Place just after 4pm on Thursday. Police guarded the house late into the night while forensic teams carried out examinations inside.

It is understood that Mr Miller may have been attacked on Wednesday, but help was not sought until the following day.

Over the weekend, police officers continued door-to-door inquiries and unmarked police cars circled the area.

Two uniformed officers stood outside the property keeping guard while detectives continued to piece together what exactly had happened to Mr Miller.

A large incident support van could also be seen parked outside the house. The weekend’s winter weather did not keep mourners away as flowers were left at the door of the house.

Peterhead South and Cruden councillor, Stuart Pratt, who lives near New Pitsligo, said: “I really feel for the family and the village, people are clearly disturbed by this.

“I would hope people are not put off going outside or made to feel unsafe. The police are working hard to find out what happened.”
