Aberdeenshire Council’s Liberal Democrat Group has elected a new leader and deputy leader.
Cllr Karen Clark who represents Banchory & Mid Deeside was elected unanimously at last week’s AGM, stepping up from deputy leader.
East Garioch Councillor Fergie Hood was unanimously elected deputy leader of the group.
Cllr Clark said: ‘ I feel privileged to serve in this role and proud to represent an excellent team who will continue work hard in the best interests of their constituents and of Aberdeenshire.
“We want to put people first and not personalities, so my priority as leader is to ensure we keep to our liberal values of fairness and equality in all we do at council level and at grass roots in our communities.
“Liberal Democrats will continue to play a major role in running Aberdeenshire council’s administration. We have the ideas and the energy to maintain momentum and build on the excellent achievements of the past few years.
She added, “We are proud of our investment record in schools and social services and of the excellent services we deliver. We will continue to campaign for Aberdeenshire so that we receive a fair and proper share of investment and funding from the SNP government.
Cllr Fergus Hood said, “ I look forward to working alongside Karen and supporting her and the rest of the Liberal Democrat team as we work to deliver the commitments made in 2012.
“We know that Aberdeenshire Council faces huge challenges, with some £49m to be removed from our budgets over the next three years.”
