Hundreds of visitors turned out to the Banff and Buchan College Open Evening recently.

The event was organised to give prospective students an opportunity to speak to members of staff, learn about the range of courses on offer and tour the recently-refurbished building.

Visitors had the opportunity to speak to members of staff who were representing the departments of the College, including Art and Design, Hospitality, Construction, Engineering, and Hairdressing, Beauty and Complementary Therapies. As well as the different departments of the College, outside organisations including Fraserburgh Development Trust and Aberdeen College were also represented.

In total, over 250 people visited the information evening. Of those, 10% applied online for a place on a course the same evening. Many went to the College’s Learning Resource Centre to apply or submitted an application the following day.

Commenting, College Principal Paul Sherrington said: “We’re hoping it’ll be an opportunity for people to come in and see the college, talk to members of staff and discover the range of courses we have on offer.

“We want people to be as informed as they can possibly be so people make the right decisions for their future.”

Sector Manager for Business and the Arts Fiona Birse commented: “This is the first open evening we’ve organised in the new, refurbished building. We’re hoping that people will come along and see what’s on offer.”

Kevin Bruce, who was representing the construction department, said: “We’re hoping to make the public aware of what we’re doing and what we offer. We’re also doing health and safety testing for people to come and have a go.”

One of the hundreds of visitors to the event, Yvonne, commented: “We came along to the open night to get an insight into the facilities available. It’s a really welcoming college to come to and there’s a lot on offer for everyone.”
