Grants sought for local projects

BUCHAN councillors will be asked today (Tuesday), to approve a grant of £250 to Buchan East Community Council on behalf of St. Combs towards equipment for the Brighter Villages Scheme.

They will also be asked to note the award of £200 to Mintlaw and District Community Council towards the production of its newsletter ‘Mintlaw Community Claik’.

In a report to councillors, Buchan area manager Chris White told memgers that the committee had previously deferred a decision on the Mintlaw newsletter pending further details on cost.

“Officers have liaised with local members and community council representatives and it has since been agreed that the production of the newsletter will be undertaken by staff in the area manager’s office and an award of £200 suitably covers the cost of paper and production of five issues,” he says.

“Buchan East Community Council has submitted an application on behalf of St. Combs village, who have now identified volunteers willing to join the Brighter Villages Scheme.

“In order to carry out some of the duties related to the scheme, the volunteers require a petrol grass strimmer and protective clothing. Also included in the application is the cost of replacing one of their flower barrels which has been destroyed.

“The work involved will be undertaken by volunteers who are already looking after the tubs and floral displays around the village.

“The continuation of a project grant scheme will be of benefit to the area in allowing community-sponsored works to proceed.

“In this particular case the main aim is to improve the appearance of the village and the local environment,” he adds.
