YOUNGSTERS at St. Kane’s Playgroup in New Deer are enjoying learning computing skills again, thanks to grant aid from Foundation Scotland and the fundraising efforts of local woman Amanda Davies.

The playgroup has been able to purchase a brand new computer thanks to a £599 grant from the funding body, while Amanda’s skydive last year has enabled the purchase of a printer and computer software.

Local mum, Karen Duncan, told the Buchanie: “We had originally applied to the Shell Small Grants Scheme, but did not qualify and it was them who put us on the Foundation Scotland and we were delighted when we were successful.

“We lost our funding two years ago and we have to privately fund our group and carry out various fundraisers every year in order to continue. One of our computers packed in and we were trying to get funds for a new one, so the grant from Foundation Scotland has just been fantastic,” she said. “Last year Amanda did a skydive to raise funds for us and the money has gone on a new printer and software and we’d like to thank her for her magnificent efforts,” she added.
