A Peterhead engineering firm will find out on Tuesday whether or not it is to get planning consent for alterations and an extension to its existing depot in Old Deer.
Applicant, Mr J. Clark of Thistle Group, Baltic Place, is seeking full planning consent for the extension in order to form an assembly area and landscaped boundary belt at the firm’s Kirkgate depot.
At their meeting in Peterhead, members of the Buchan area committee will hear that the application site is located within the Old Deer Conservation area to the south of the village.
Councillors will hear that the proposed extension is L-shaped and measures 18m by 24m at its longest points and stands approximately 10m tall to match the height of the existing shed.
In a report to Tuesday’s meeting, planning chief Stephen Archer says the extension will provide indoor facilities for an indoor crane required for the dismantling and assembling of oil and fishing related equipment.
“At present these works are undertaken in the open yard area and these activities haveimpacted upon the amenity of neighbouring properties and there have been complaints made to the Environmental Health Service in this regard,” he says.
“The applicant’s agent in their a supporting letter states that the moving of these activities indoors will reduce impacts upon neighbouring properties as the building will be insulated and will reduce need for vehicles, generators and equipment to be used outdoors in the yard area.”
Members will hear that four objections have been received against the plans.
Mr Archer concludes: “On balance, it is considered that the potential benefits to the amenity of residents as a result of the operation being moved indoors outweigh theadditional adverse impact upon the Conservation Area.
“Ideally this type of development should be located within an industrial area but this is a historical site and theextension should make the development more compatible with the neighbouring residential uses.”
Members of the committee will be asked to grant full planning consent subject to a number of conditions.
