Father’s Day fun with lifeboat crew

PETERHEAD lifeboat crew is preparing for a fun-filled fathers’ day as they invite members of the public to a special fun run.

The three separate courses, of three, five and 10km in length will kick off from the lifeboat station, West Pier at 1.30pm on June 17.

Part of the RNLI Summer Series, which raises funds for vital services across the UK, runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are invited to take part in three a choice of three challenging races.

The three kilometre route takes runners Northwards along the Seagate, past the harbour and Roanheads then down onto the esplanade by Gadle Braes towards the River Ugie Estuary.

They will run as far as George Road, then turn and retrace the route back and finish at the Lifeboat Station. The five kilometre route stretches further, towards Golf Road and the old Smoke House, before once again heading back to West Pier.

For the keen runners out there, the longest run - the 10k - follows the same basic route as the others, then stretches on further, past Birnie Bridge and along the footpath up onto the North Road track.

Runners will then pass through Lovers Lane and onto the Peterhead By-pass side road then Eastward as far as the old railway line, before heading back to the Lifeboat station. A Spokesman for RNLI Peterhead said: “This year’s event is going to be better than ever. We look forward to welcoming runners, joggers and walkers. Everyone will receive a medal on completion of the run and there will be refreshments. Anyone who wants to come along in fancy dress is more than welcome!”

Entry fees are £5 for the 3k, £7.50 for the 5k and £10 for the 10k - payable on arrival.

Children under the age of 14 should be accompanied at all times by an adult.
