A north-east university student has been recognised by engineering and inspection business Imes for the quality of his work as part of a final year project.

Andrew Fowlie (22) is currently completing an MEng in Mechanical and Offshore Engineering at the Robert Gordon University (RGU) and was presented with the Imes Mechanical Engineering Prize at an end-of-semester prize giving ceremony recently.

Imes, a leading independent provider of global engineering and lifting inspection services, is a long-time sponsor of the award.

Andrew is a former pupil of Peterhead Academy and was nominated for the award by university staff in recognition of his project entitled “Design and Development of a Subsea Lifting Basket and the Investigation into the Feasibility of Added Buoyancy Capabilities” for which he was awarded a Grade A.

Andrew, who will complete his studies in October, passed all years of his course with Distinction.

He has already lined up a job following graduation, working as a well engineer for an international operator based in Aberdeen.

He said: “I’m delighted to have received this award and would like to thank both Imes and my lecturers at RGU for their help and support which has prepared me for entering the world of work after graduation.”

Jason Smith, chief operating officer at Imes, said: “We’re always happy to recognise young talent and Andrew has certainly highlighted the high level of skills we have here in Aberdeen and the surrounding area with this project.”

Dr. Jennifer McConnachie, course leader in Mechanical Engineering at RGU, said: “This award is well deserved for Andrew who has performed consistently well throughout his time at university. I am sure he has a bright career in front of him.

“We would like to thank Imes for its continued support which plays an important role in celebrating the achievements of the next generation of engineering professionals.”

Imes is an international engineering company providing integrity management services to the oil and gas, renewables and defence industries.
