Central Buchan councillor Jim Ingram has called for safer access to a large area of the village of Mintlaw.

The junction at which Newlands Road meets the A950 serves nearly 600 houses as well as the health centre, library, Pitfour Primary School and the newly opened MACBI Community Centre.

Cllr Ingram expanded on earlier concerns expressed by the community council.

He said: “This prompts me to request that consideration be given to the formation of an alternative access point, which can better serve the needs of this portion of the community, that has a history of having been inconvenienced on numerous occasions in the past due to this limitation.

“It is my understanding that it is intended to eventually complete Newlands Road in its entirety, giving this section of the village two possible entry and exit points. I am requesting that consideration be given to reinstate the access point connecting Burnside Road with Nether Aden Road that existed during the 1970s, to facilitate the construction of the major housing estate that was ongoing at that time (see no. 2 on plan)

I am confident that should this proposal find approval it would go a considerable way to alleviating the safety and other concerns being expressed by the community.”
