Vincent Docherty, the current head teacher of John Paul Academy in Summerston, Glasgow has been appointed as Aberdeenshire Council’s new head of service within the Education, Learning and Leisure.

The appointment was made by the council’s Appointments Committee at a meeting in the authority’s Woodhill House headquarters.

Mr Docherty became head teacher at John Paul Academy in September 2008 following five years as depute head teacher at St Andrew’s High School in Clydebank.

He began his teaching career in 1992 as a teacher of Physics and Maths at St Leonard’s Secondary in Glasgow.

Strategic tasks will include head teacher leadership and management, pupil support, work with national groups, and areas of curricular development.

Appointments Committee chair, Cllr Jim Gifford, said: “We are delighted to welcome Vincent to Aberdeenshire Council.

“His skills and experience will add to the excellent senior management team within the Education, Learning and Leisure Service. I would like to wish him all the best in his new role.”
