Community Woodland abuzz with youngsters

The Buchan Meadows Community Woodland project has been very busy recently, with dozens of children visiting the site on Nether Kinmundy Road, Peterhead.

Children, parents and staff from local schools and Peterhead Cubs have visited the Woodland to learn about outdoor activities, nature and wildlife.

Clerkhill School’s Primary 2 pupils visited on to learn about minibeasts. While there, the class had the chance to do pond-dipping and learn about species-identification.

Primary 6 and 7 pupils from Boddam School also visited where they tried their hand at orienteering before having a snack in the woodland centre.

Meanwhile, the Peterhead Cubs took part in a wildlife safari during their visit.

Community Woodland Officer with Buchan Meadows, Andy Devine, said: “These visits are incredibly beneficial to the children who come to the Woodland.

“We offer young people the chance to learn about life outdoors, which compliments their classroom studies and the Curriculum for Excellence”.

“Budget cuts have made it difficult to pay to transport the children to the site. However, Peterhead Projects along with Dial-a-Bus and Total have formed a partnership to ensure the kids can continue to visit”.
